Social-emotional learning isn't just about the students; it's about the adults, also, says Michelle Van Allen, an elementary school principal in the Chicago Public Schools. We recently sat down with her to talk about social-emotional learning and how it keeps her staff resilient and motivated.

Ever wonder how a social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum is created? Step into the offices of global nonprofit Committee for Children, leading provider of SEL programs worldwide, and hear about some of the key ingredients that went into the making of the Second Step Middle School Program.

In this segment, meet Product Manager Rachel Kamb, whose mission is to design an SEL program that help students succeed socially, emotionally, and academically. Making sure the lessons in the Second Step Middle School Program were engaging to middle schoolers and accomplished their purpose was a vigorous process that required continuous feedback and improvements over the course of two years. Kamb and her team worked with more than a hundred classrooms in eight pilot schools across the country and gathered feedback from students, educators, and administrators.
